Once installed, just click the menu bar item to display a simple menu. There are several apps that provide a simple background image service, but we really enjoy the Unsplash Wallpapers app for Mac. Let’s say you don’t want to use your own pictures on your computer while you’re at work or on the go, or maybe you enjoy showcasing the photography of other artists. This means the images available will be updated automatically for you, so you’ll hopefully have a constant cycle of images on your desktop, allowing you to really enjoy those images! Bonus Tip The random order option is highly recommended as it prevents you from feeling like you’re stuck in a loop, though if you prefer your backgrounds to cycle chronologically, it is a good option.Īn extra tip is to use your Favorites album from your Photos, or indeed any other smart album. These two are also the less battery intensive options, especially compared to changing images every 5 minutes. Click on the plus button, and use Finder to choose /Library/Screen Savers/Default Collections and then the folder you want to add.
Just go to System Preferences > Desktop, and you’ll see a plus button. Adding the Folder to Your Repertoire of Great Wallpaper If you want to have easy access to them, you can add that folder to the Desktop pane of System Preferences easily. All together, Apple has provided 39 additional images that can be used for wallpaper. Of course, if you have a 4K or 5K display, they might be a bit small, but they’ll still look gorgeous. If all of that is too much trouble, here’s the full path to the screensaver images. Spotlight easily locates the “hidden” wallpaper
The first hit will probably be the folder you want. Once Spotlight comes up, type Default Collections. To locate them for yourself, just activate Spotlight by clicking the magnifying glass in the top right of the menu bar, or pressing Command-Space on your keyboard. Spotlight, however, finds them quite handily. The images are just in a folder that you might not think to check. I say they’re hidden, but they’re really not. They look beautiful in the screensaver, and they’ll work just as well for great wallpaper backgrounds on your Mac’s display. There are also nature patterns, images of the cosmos, and aerial photographs. These images include gorgeous photographs from National Geographic, and more.
